OFE is delighted to announce a number of leadership changes that will support the organisation in the ambition to advance openness in digital and to establish OFE as a prominent stakeholder in the digital policy space.

As of 16 November, current CEO Sachiko Muto has taken on the role of Chair, shaping and supervising the vision of the organisation. Sachiko Muto has been OFE’s CEO since 2016 and has successfully led the team in Brussels in its growth and accomplishing its goals. Overall, she has been engaged in OFE since 2007 and will now apply her experience in OFE’s future endeavours on the most strategic level. Until 1 January 2022, she will hold dual roles as CEO and Chair to ensure smooth transition to the new leadership structure.

Astor Nummelin Carlberg is taking over the CEO’s tasks and responsibilities as of January 1st, assuming the title of Executive Director. Astor joined OFE in 2018, has been crucial for advancing OFE’s development ever since and will continue doing so in this new capacity. Astor will focus on the sustainable development of the organisation, broadening its reach and achieving OFE’s new potential in the light of the growing importance of open technologies in all digital policy domains.

I’m very proud of what OFE has accomplished over the last several years. Today, our mission is as relevant as ever and we are well positioned to have a significant impact. Astor has been instrumental in bringing OFE to where we are and I am thrilled to see him take over the operations. I will continue to stay engaged and support the team as they take on new opportunities.

Sivan Pätsch remains committed to implementing OFE’s vision as a think tank and developing the organisation’s research agenda as Research Director. With the changes, he will at the beginning of the new year gain the responsibility for OFE’s financial management as Treasurer.

Moreover, Paula Grzegorzewska, Senior Policy Advisor engaged with OFE since 2019, has been promoted to the position of Strategic Partnerships Director to support OFE in pursuing its objective of being the leading actor in advancing openness in the digital space. Giulia Guadagnoli advances to the role of the Senior Policy Advisor to deepen the focus on organisation’s policy initiatives.

Last but not least, Graham Taylor has retired from the role of Chairman and is appointed Emeritus Chairman effective immediately, providing continuity with past activities after his almost 20 years of engagement within OFE. His ongoing commitment to openness and OFE’s development is highly appreciated and has shaped the organisation as it is today.

With these changes, OFE continues its ambitions to be the EU’s foremost think tank focusing on openness at the intersection of technology and policy. We will pursue our vision of the digital landscape that is open, competitive, user centric and sustainable, as laid out in our guiding openness principles.
