Amplifying open source’s policy influence

Each February, Brussels transforms into the global nexus for open technology and digital policy discussions. Centred around FOSDEM, Europe’s largest open source conference, and OpenForum Europe’s EU Open Source Policy Summit, Europe’s landmark open source and digital policy event, the conversations happening in Brussels that week set up the stage for open technologies to lead Europe’s digital autonomy and innovation.

Gathering hundreds of open source and digital policy experts, these events have led to a surge of workshops, meet-ups and social gatherings taking place in Brussels and providing visitors with a unique mix of learning and networking opportunities. To amplify the momentum set by FOSDEM and the EU Open Source Policy Summit, we are launching the EU Open Source Week Platform.

Facilitating access to events taking place around FOSDEM and the EU Open Source Policy Summit, this guide helps to promote and access all the open source events taking place in Brussels. Beyond serving as a directory to help you make the most of your time in Brussels, the EU Open Source Week aims to amplify the impact of FOSDEM and the EU Open Source Policy Summit on global open source conversations and European innovation.

Through this initiative, we are uniting European and global networks, reinforcing the strategic importance of open source in Europe’s digital and industrial policies, and further bridging the technical and policy realms. The EU Open Source Week is designed to facilitate cross-expertise engagement, ensuring that everyone in Brussels and online can effortlessly transition from developer rooms and community meet-ups to policy panels and governance workshops, maximising the value of their visit and forging lasting connections.

Through this guide, we continue with our mission to foster open exchange between open source developer communities and European policymakers, driving European innovation with user-centricity, flexibility, and community at its core.
