SUMMARY:Research infrastructure\, cloud and open innovation: How to ensure trust in global solutions?
DESCRIPTION:*** White Paper now available *** \nThe European Commission proposed in April 2016 a plan to put in place an infrastructure which can support Open Research Data and Open Science in Europe: the European Open Science Cloud. At the same time\, the European Parliament is in the process of drafting the own-initiative report on the European Cloud Initiative.  \nOpen Science can only develop in a trusted environment\, where research data can be safely stored and made openly available. This environment has to rely on excellent scientific data infrastructures which cannot be disconnected across fields and regions. \nStakeholders representing SMEs\, industry\, policy makers\, researchers and community will come around the table to discuss how to build trustworthy infrastructures\, while promoting open innovation and global solutions. The participants will debate whether the policy and legal measures should apply in the same way to research infrastructure and cloud computing technology respectively. The foreseen future role of the European Cloud Select Industry Group (C-SIGs) in the new policy landscape will also be discussed. \nPanelists \n\nMEP Michal Boni (EPP)\, ITRE shadow rapporteur; \nThomas Skordas\, Acting Director of the Digital Excellence & Science Infrastructure Directorate (DG CONNECT);\nMatthew Dovey\, Head of research technology\, Jisc (UK);\nGeorg Greve\, CEO of Kolab Systems AG\, a member of the OpenPOWER Foundation\n\nThe discussion following the panelists’ interventions will be moderated\, and held under the Chatham House Rule. The event will be followed by a reception. \nPlease register here by 30 November 2016 COB.  \n  \nOnline invitation \nPictures of the event \n  \nPresentations of the speakers: \nPanelists introductory speeches (videos) \nMatthew Dovey (slides) \nGeorg Greve (slides) \n  \nImage credit by Blue Coat Photos\, vía Flickr.
