UK Public Sector Current Objectives

Terms of Reference: A balanced Group of Government and Industry representatives which can develop initiatives to achieve the vision, mission and objectives of an open, competitive ICT UK market and the adoption by Central and Local Government of Open Standards and the implementation of Open Source solutions, as documented in the UKG Action Plan.

Focus of Core Activity: The Group will focus on developing close relationships with and influencing leading Central and Local Government decision makers and influencers who devise and implement ICT policies.

Objectives: Develop procurement advice for UK Government to help establish a level playing field between Open Source and proprietary software and to promote the use of Open Standards.

Promote Open Source and Open Standards success stories both in the UK public sector and more widely.

Encourage Solution Integrators to propose a higher proportion of Open Source and Open Standard based solutions

Encourage UKG to become directly involved with EC initiatives.
