The recent Communication from the Commission on 'Unleashing the Potential of Cloud Computing in Europe' identified a number of key actions including “A wider use of standards, the certification of cloud services to show they meet these standards and the endorsement of such certificates by regulatory authorities as indicating compliance with legal obligations will help cloud take-off”.
Few would doubt the Commission's good intentions and indeed the use of standards to avoid lock-in, but is Certification the way to go?
